EAC Student Assistant *2007-2008 Description* POSITIONS FILLED
Did you participate in the UC Education Abroad Program, UC Davis Quarter Abroad or UC Davis Summer Abroad? Would you like to share your experiences with students who are interested in studying abroad? As an EAC Student Assistant, you will help generate interest and enthusiasm among undergrads, facilitate their selection of a program, and help prepare them for their study abroad experience. This is an opportunity to further develop your office, leadership, and advising/counseling skills in a supportive and professional environment.
The EAC student assistant is a key player in assuring that student clients are served and office projects are completed in a timely and accurate manner. As the first point of contact, you will greet and refer clients to the appropriate resources, answer phones, and make appointments for the EAC’s staff, faculty, and assistant directors. You will assist with setting up and maintaining student applicant files and copying and coordinating required student documents. You will prepare resource materials for presentations, meetings, and office displays, and participate in outreach activities such as disseminating publicity materials and assisting in oral presentations. You will work as part of a committed team of peers and professionals in a dynamic deadline-driven environment, and you will gain skills which will promote your personal and professional growth.
Additionally, each student assistant will have specific responsibilities while at the EAC. Each quarter students will specialize in one of the following areas: UC Davis Summer Abroad, UC Davis Quarter Abroad, Academic Integration, Targeted Group/Club/Classroom Outreach, Residence Hall Outreach, Financial Aid, Reciprocity/Returnee Students, and Office Organization. You will work closely with and under the direction of EAC staff to perform specialty area duties. You will rotate specialty areas each quarter in order to gain multiple skills and utilize specific talents within different areas.
Student assistants also have the option of gaining 1 to 4 variable EAP 192 (Internship in Education Abroad) units. In order to receive these units, EAC Student Assistants will be expected to design an internship project of their choice under supervision of their EAC staff mentor. This project should relate to the EAC Student Assistant’s interest in international education, their Major or Minor, or any of their duties at the EAC, and may vary in size and scope. At the conclusion of the internship, EAC Student Assistants will report on their project and learning objectives

The Internship
The Graphic Design Intern creates the Education Abroad Center’s “image.” You are responsible for creating appealing publicity materials that generate interest in the Center’s study abroad programs. This is an opportunity to further develop your design skills in a supportive and professional environment. The skills you gain from this internship will help you build your portfolio and prepare you for the professional world. You will learn to work independently, gain technical and leadership skills and experience that will promote your personal and professional growth. This paid internship requires 12-15 hours per week throughout the academic year at a Student Assistant II level. Transcript Notation and/or academic credit are available for the internship.

The Internship
This is a great opportunity for a student who wants to enhance your technical, design and leadership skills to prepare for the world of work. While the intern must have previous experience in web site and database design and maintenance, there will be room to learn and grow in a supportive environment. The EAC web site is often the first point of contact for students, staff and faculty and it is important that its content is appealing, easy to navigate and accurate. The Web Site Coordinator plays a key role in a high quality organization.
