"For me the first great joy of traveling is simply the luxury of leaving all my beliefs and certainties at home, and seeing everything I thought I knew in a different light, and from a crooked angle." Pico Iyler, author, editor, and traveler.

A little bit about my background… I was first bitten by the wanderlust bug in college when I heard about going to France on EAP for a year. I have never “recovered”. In fact, I still keep in touch with my Bordelaise “famille d’acceuille” twenty years later! Soon after college, with an insatiable desire to go “out there” again, I spent a year teaching ESL in Madrid. Since that time, I have continued to travel to the far corners of the planet for work and vacation. I have also been blessed with opportunities to work in foreign consulates, NGOs and in higher education. Soon after engagement, I even convinced my newly betrothed to backpack around the world on a shoestring budget for a year to Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, India, and Latin America. Most recently, before joining the EAC team in the Summer Abroad department, I worked here at UC Davis for 7 years with international students and lawyers. I love working with instructors on finding new places or kinds of programs so that ALL students can go abroad.

I look forward to meeting you on your journey to far or near lands, whether you decide to make your first educational experience abroad a short or long one. Even if it’s your first sojourn outside the U.S., it will definitely not be the last because once “bitten”, the yearn to travel overseas again and again will always be with you. I can’t wait to be a part of it!
