Are you looking to fulfill a General Education (GE) requirement with coursework taken overseas? That process can be simple or complex, depending upon your situation. Before we start with the details, let’s take a second to review the General Education requirements on campus. Designed to promote the intellectual growth of all undergraduates, the GE requirement ensures that students take a variety of coursework outside of their chosen major. For more details about the GE, visit http://ge.ucdavis.edu.
UC Davis Summer Abroad and Quarter Abroad courses are regular UC Davis courses taught abroad; consult the General Catalog to see if a course fulfills a General Education requirement.
If you participated on the EAP program, you will work with us to petition for GE credit for the coursework you took overseas. The EAC will receive your petition and submit it to the UC Davis Academic Senate Committee on International Studies and Exchanges (CISE), the faculty body vested with the authority to review and grant UC Davis General Education credit for UC Education Abroad Program (EAP) taken at an overseas university. Please note, it often takes 4-8 weeks after you submit your petition to receive a decision on your request.
If you were on a Non-UC Study Abroad Program (NUCSA), and you wish to fulfill GE requirements on your program, you will need to consult with your College Dean’s office prior to your departure to petition your coursework. Your college will have final authority over the approval of your NUCSA coursework for your graduation GE requirements.
Alright, so how do you fulfill GE requirements with EAP coursework? Simply follow the checklist below after you return from your program (You may submit an EAP course description for preliminary approval before you depart, but final approval will be determined upon return from your program and submission of additional materials.)
