Important Information from your Department

  • Before going abroad, you are highly encouraged to meet with an advisor. You can use up to two upper division courses (8 units) to fulfill major requirements abroad. Most upper division courses in Asian American Studies must be taken at UC Davis. However, electives and language courses are encouraged to take abroad. Courses from African & American Studies, American Studies, Chicano/a Studies, Native American Studies, and Women & Gender Studies are recommended options for either emphasis. For Humanities Emphasis: An Asian language is recommended such as, Chinese 1,2,3 or Japanese 1,2,3 as well as Literature and History Classes. For Social Science Emphasis: Courses in Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology. Your advisor can pre-approve your coursework prior to your study abroad program.
  • When you return, visit a staff or faculty advisor to review your courses for approval. E-mail a substitution request to your staff advisor.
