Why Study Abroad:
The Education Abroad Center offers a rich diversity of options for International Agricultural Development majors. Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural richness of other countries, while gaining valuable knowledge about developmental strategies that will improve food production, nutrition and marketing in developing nations. International Agricultural Development students are strongly encouraged to study abroad and take advantage of the opportunities and learning experiences that are a lifelong gift. By studying abroad, students can gain a stronger understanding of the international developmental process and begin to develop innovative and strategic plans for change.
When to Study Abroad:
Study abroad programs are available at all class levels (some as early as 3rd quarter first year all the way through to the last quarter of the senior year). The particular quarter, semester, summer or year that you study abroad depends on your individual progress in the major, what coursework you plan to complete abroad, and your immediate plans after graduation. Due to the flexibility of the International Agricultural Development Major, it is best to consult with your major advisor to determine the optimal time period for studying abroad. (Please note that if you plan to study abroad your senior year, it is vital that you consult with your major advisor to ensure that you will be in compliance with all University residency requirements.)
Where to go:
International Agricultural Development students have the opportunity to study in any of the various programs that the Education Abroad Center offers. Whether students opt to go to Barbados, Japan, the Netherlands or Vietnam, they will gain a valuable experience that will enhance not only their undergraduate career at UC Davis, but enhance their experiences and interactions in the professional world.

What classes to take:
Coursework taken on the UC Davis Quarter Abroad and the UC Davis Summer Abroad programs are regular UC Davis courses and fulfill major and college and university requirements just as they would as if they had been taken while in residence on campus. Be sure to consult the UC Davis General Catalog for specifics.
All classes taken on the UC Education Abroad Program (EAP) are listed individually with their accompanying grades on your UC Davis transcript. The courses are UC approved courses and count toward your 180 unit requirement for graduation; however, your major has the final authority to determine how the coursework is used to fulfill specific major requirements.
