Learning a Language Abroad!

David Ronconi“This past summer I had the privilege of spending three months in Siena, Italy on the EAP Summer Abroad program. Hands down it was the best summer of my life! I was able to experience what it is like to be an Italian in the beautiful and historical medieval city of Siena, as well as meet new and incredible people every day! Living with a host family, I was able to drastically improve my comprehension and fluency of the language as well as understand Italian culture from an inside perspective.”

Fulfilling UC Davis Foreign Language Requirements

  • A language and culture program can fulfill the Foreign Language Requirement (FLR) for students in the College of Letters & Science, as well as for A.B. Biological Science Students.
  • To fulfill your 15 quarter units requirement in one language, you may take all your courses abroad (to total 15 quarter units) or continue the language upon return to UC Davis (to total 15 units) or take a placement examination at the Language Learning Lab in Olson Hall.
  • If you study a language abroad not offered at UC Davis, you will have two options to fulfill your FLR: 1) take a proficiency examination offered through the Second Language Acquisition Institute in Voorhies Hall, or 2) continue your same language at a local university/college that offers classes in that
  • language (to total 15 units).
  • If you are required to learn a language as part of your UC Davis major or minor, please consult your departmental advisor to learn about your options.
