Determining Your Language Level

Before Applying

If an EAP or Quarter Abroad program lists a foreign language as the language of instruction, the University-level prerequisite coursework will be given. This can range from a minimum of 0 to 6 quarters of coursework.

If you have not taken the language units while in college, but would like to take a placement exam to test your level, visit the Language Learning Center website for further instructions.

During Application Process

If you have fulfilled foreign language prerequisites at UC Davis, you will submit your UC Davis transcript to display all coursework. When applying to a program that requires a language level that you have not fulfilled through UC Davis courses, you must take a language placement exam or receive consent from the instructor. See your EAP or QA advisor for details.

Some EAP programs may require a Language Evaluation Form, which will be provided in your application checklist. To complete this form you will meet with your language instructor to verify your language level.
