EAP Faculty Newsletter - “The EAP World”
1) EAP FACULTY RECRUITMENT FOR SHORT-TERM TEACHING POSITIONS BEGINNING IN 2008
Faculty play a central role in the study abroad process through many different activities both abroad and locally: serving as instructors in our many programs, serving as EAP Study Center Directors, planning and reviewing curriculum, approving EAP course work in your majors, and advising students in your departments.
If you are already participating in this process, the EAC would like to extend our thanks. If you wish to get involved, there are many opportunities.
UC Davis Opportunities for Faculty
First, you can help by promoting study abroad to the students in your classes. Invite one of our EAC interns to come to one of your classes to make a short presentation on study abroad opportunities for students. Contact us to request a international opportunity presentation.
You can serve as a Faculty Liaison to the Education Abroad Center and work with the EAC to promote academic integration of education abroad course work into your department’s major curriculum. You can also volunteer to serve on the Academic Senate’s Committee on International Studies and Exchanges that deals with issues related to international education.
If you are interested in teaching abroad, opportunities are available through both the Quarter Abroad and Summer Abroad Programs. All UC Davis faculty are eligible to submit course proposals for the Summer Abroad program. An annual call is sent to faculty members each spring quarter. Interested faculty are encouraged to discuss their plans with the faculty director Eric Schroeder.
Off-campus Opportunities for Faculty
Faculty assist the Education Abroad Program in many ways. On the system-wide level, they serve in administrative, advisory, consultative, program developmental and review roles. Opportunities for service abroad include Study Center Directorships, Faculty Exchanges, and Visiting Professorships.
